Challenging It Can Be, To Just Get It Done, Procrastination

Procrastination Wastes TimeWell, I have perked your interest to get you this far to start reading. We waste time spent just thinking about we should do. We probably know what is good for us but it is human nature to procrastinate, even when we know what the right thing to do. The procrastination is even extended, when the task at hand is voluntary. Let me note there is a difference between patience and procrastination.

Why Do We Procrastinate? Procrastination Serves No Purpose

The example is getting in a workout … either going for a walk or even heading to the gym. I had a conversation with a neighbor, whom I spoke to in the gym. He indicated how difficult it was to get to the gym. Now this guy, who I will name as Bill, is 73 years old. I noticed him working out and he was killing it doing cardio. Bill probably spent at least 80 minutes doing cardio. I mean this was not just the fat burn range but well into the cardio range.

The most difficult thing is just walking through the door.

I caught Bill after the workout just to compliment him on his condition. He does look physically fit. His difficulty in getting to the gym is not because of time, as he is retired. He just thinks about it and then … procrastination. Bill said the most difficult thing is just walking through the door. Once he is in the facility he is just fine and obviously gets to it.

Why Do You Workout?

I asked Bill, why to you workout? … he indicated that he did not want to be like many of friends, who are six feet under the ground. Many of his friends, who are retired, sit back and let their bodies go to shit. Bill obviously has an internal drive and a desire to maintain his health, the best that he can. I really to commend him for this.

… the way I feel when the workout is done.

Your Mind Can Do Amazing ThingsI have many of the same reasons to get to the gym. I want to see the day to enjoy my grand kids, when they do come around. I also procrastinate but what gets me to keep going, is the way I feel when the workout is done. I kid you not, every single time I walk out of the gym I feel better than when I walked in through the doors. This may not seem to be a big deal to others but this is what really drives me.

Just walk through the door and amazing things will happen.

I hope I projected some thoughts on procrastination. Find your reason to get through it and get things done. Remember, your mind can do amazing things. To me it makes sense to “Eat the frog,” as my wife says. It is easy to procrastinate but more challenging to overcome it. Most of the battle is taking the first step in the right direction. Just walk through the door and amazing things will happen.
